Defend the Wolves, a Non-Profit Wolf Rescue Center, Gains More Exposure on EcoSeeker.com
San Francisco, CA - Jim Windwalker, founder of First Nations Outreach Project, the parent organization for Defend the Wolves Wildlife and Rescue Center in Alabama, has just listed his website www.DefendTheWolves.org on www.EcoSeeker.com EcoSeeker is a Green Internet search engine with a Non-Profit Organization category. "I am always trying to let more people know about my website," says Windwalker. "It's great that there's a search engine totally dedicated to environmental issues such as endangered species."
Windwalker, a respected Cherokee warrior, and chief investigator for the First Nation's Commission on Civil Rights, has been doing wolf education and rescue for 8 years, and currently takes care of 28 wolves on 80 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. "Wolves have always been my passion. These wolves are family to me. I take my first rescue wolf, Michi, to powwows and zoos as part of my wolf education program. She takes pride in her job, and we demonstrate how wolves play much harder than dogs and do not make great pets." Unfortunately, many people fancy having wolves or wolf hybrids as pets, and they are regularly sold as cute pups at flea markets. But Windwalker says, "wolves are wild animals, not pets, and soon people find that they are in over their heads and can not keep it. Then they take it to a vet to put it down, and I take it in to prevent that."
Windwalker is currently expanding his refuge to take in more wolves, and is building a state of the art Wolf Gardens Rescue and Education Center. "We are working with the Alabama tourism board to make this a sought after destination. We have a business plan that will make us a self sufficient organization. Eventually, we'd like to expand even further to include cougars, bears, and raptors. We are also working on long term projects to preserve the habitat of wild wolves and other animals so that endangered species can be a thing of the past."
"We want people who love wolves, and want to ensure their place among us for generations to come, to know about and support our work," says Windwalker. "One way people can do that is by donating at our site, www.DefendTheWolves.org , where they can "adopt" a wolf. People can also forward this article to their friends and contacts. Another way they can support this work is by volunteering to help at the rescue center onsite, or remotely on any of the projects. I've also just released my book, Kettle Creek, a post-historic fiction, about Cherokees who fought in the Civil War, and 100% of the proceeds from that go towards the wolf rescue center. It's available on my site, or through Amazon and most any book seller. If people want an autographed copy they can email me at jwindwalker@earthlink.net ."
"I tell you," reflects Windwalker, "my heart just opens up when I look into their eyes, play with them, and listen to them howl. I feel honored to be doing this work, and I love it."
